Our April Coin & Currency Sale #40 includes a well-rounded selection of coins across the board from US Half Cents thru Foreign Gold. Featured areas are US Gold (24 lots) and Foreign Silver Coins (45 lots) but most series are well-represented, and many nice type coins and some rarer dates are offered as well. Highlights are a 19th century vintage printing block depicting a 1796 No Pole Half Cent, an 1849-O Seated Quarter, a 1987 2-Coin Proof Gold Eagle Set, an American Liberty $100 Ultra High Relief in OGP, plus many others. Be sure to view the lot photos – there is something for all types of collectors.

Our Sale #357 in March starts off the 2025 spring philatelic season.

The sale begins on Tuesday, March 11th with a good variety of US covers & postal stationery lots including advertising covers, locals and a Canal Zone UF1a registered envelope. Our Foreign covers selection showcases some German WWII air covers from the Aegean and other Feldpost, Italian Offices and other accumulations.

The US section highlights include many Classics with certificates such as #13 used(graded 95!), 28A used, 130 Re-issue, 404 NH; a nice group of Grills, the Trailer Permit Stamp RVT2 used at Yellowstone and more.

Our 2nd Session offers Autographs from a large Midwestern estate including Revolutionary War era signatures and documents, and a variety of individuals from Buffalo Bill, Russian emperors and Count Zeppelin. Also do not forget to see our ever-popular ephemera lots. A few sports lots are highlighted by a 1941 Play Ball Ted Williams slabbed baseball card. We continue to offer books & catalogs from the Sergio Sismondo reference library with many unusual or hard-to-find titles.

As usual, we have many worldwide singles, country lots, topicals & accumulations. There are also some larger groups in this sale including Brazil, Falkland Islands, France and Bavaria, with many of the French items having certificates or signatures.

Coin & Currency Sale #39 is highlighted by a wide selection of scarce Liberty Seated Quarters and Halves from a recent estate liquidation. Included among the quarters are 1855-O (PCGS F-15), 1857-S (NGC AU53), 1858-O (PCGS XF45), 1864-S, 1870-CC, 1871-CC, & 1872-S.  The halves include 1844-O Doubled Date, 1866-S No Motto, & 1871-CC among many others.  The numerous gold offerings include a mint state 1878 $3 Princess (NGC MS61), and the very scarce 1859 $10 Liberty (NGC AU55).  Modern issues offer a 2016 Centennial Mercury Dime and  1991 4-Coin Gold Eagle Proof Set both in original packaging.  In addition to these, the auction is rounded out by an outstanding number of nice type coins, type set groupings, silver and gold foreign coins, mint and proof sets, and more.  This auction is one of the highest in terms of gross value so be sure to review the lots!

Our Sale #356 is in January 2025 and we hope to see you there!

Again, we are very pleased to say that we have an excellent selection of lots available, from single items to large collections and accumulations.

Our cover section includes a U.S. #433a just recently listed by Scott. We have a wide range of material including stampless, advertising, Airmail, Civil War, Naval, Parcel Post, topicals, philately and ephemera along with Zeppelins, FDCs, WW and so much more. Among our postcards is a very strong selection of Black Americana. There are many German Area including Camp Mail, Inflation, Nazi era and more. There are (2) of the earliest known correspondences from Norfolk Island from a descendant of the Bounty!

Our US Section highlights incl a #86, 132, 211 Blk, 244, coil waste blocks of #538 & 540. We also have a RW3 Plate Block/6, RW6 Plate Block/6 and a 213P5 used on small piece (2015 PF Cert “exceedingly rare variety, one of only (2) sound examples.”) There is also a DWI J8a sheet of 100 (possibly only (3) sheets extant). We also have a very strong showing of sets, collections and accumulations.

Our Coin & Currency Sale #38 features a wide array of sets and singles in most US denominations and types. Highlights among the type coins are an Indian Cent NGC MS63, a 1909-S VDB Lincoln in NGC MS63 Red-Brown, an 1864 Two-Cent (Large Motto) in NGC MS65 Brown, a 1901-S Barber Quarter in AG3, an 1880 Seated Half in Proof 60, an 1871 Liberty Seated $1 in XF and a BU Roll of 1887 Morgan Dollars. A large amount of US vintage gold is in the sale including an 1854 $3 Princess and a 1927 St Gaudens in NGC MS64. We are grateful again for the opportunity to share some highlights of our Auction #355 scheduled for November. We are fortunate to always have large groups of covers, U.S. stamps and WW stamps so we will just hit the highlights now.

In the cover section, a key piece would be the cover with (2) $5 Prexies and others used correctly in inner bank mail (Lot #6). There is a very nice group of Canadian Semi-Officials Airmail with excellent variety and value. There are a host of Zeppelin covers, U.S and German. Other cover lots include Italian Offices, stampless, maxi cards, topicals, FDC handpainted and stationery.

The U.S. section includes a 10X1, 10X2a, 99, 215 Block of 12, sheets of 614-621, Farley, press sheets, plate blocks of C13-C15, O68 used, 17P1 large die proof, 1213d and much much more.

In our worldwide section, the highlights include China 1042-1045, Germany Airmail Zeppelin sets NH, the U boat stamp, Uruguay 282-284 (only 500 sets printed) and so much more.

Sale 37 contains a wide selection of better type coins for the collector along with a few certified Indian & Lincoln Cents in higher grades, many original Lincoln Cent Rolls 1939 to 1948-D, a nice array of Seated Halves, and an 1844 Seated Dollar. Our auctions continue to contain good value and great variety and it is true for our May Auction #352. We have a strong list of cover lots and it starts early in the auction as lot #3 has an only known cover, a QE2b. There are some nice groups of flight coves, fancy cancels, some rare Special Handling with tags for bees and chicks. Good cover accumulations abound! There is a nice selection of Confederate covers, another group of seldom seen Specaal Handling covers, and a very strong section of German covers.

Our U.S. singles continue to grow with items like #78c, 99, 100, 120, 141, 182, 187, 263, 293, 467 and many more. Our Sale #351 has a large variety of stamps and covers, accumulations and collections.  In the cover section there is a #16 XF on cover to California.  A Pearl Harbor cover dated 8 Dec 1941 is very interesting.  Our lot #36 is another group of Pearl Harbor covers.  There is also a beautiful collection of USS Argonaut covers with pictures and annotations.  A submarine cover collection with different handpainted by  Gow NG is one of the best we have seen. A special delivery collection is exceptional.  Lot 105 contains over (600) postal cards IDed with varieties. A #324 Louisiana Purchase cover is attractive.  There is a strong collection of Fluegel.  Among the worldwide is a nice lot from the World Trade Center.  Of special interest is a Japan C1-C2 on cover.

The U.S. singles and box lots are abundant with better items, many cataloguing more than $1000.  Our accumulation and collection lots are very reasonable and do very well. Continue reading…….

Our February auction includes a comprehensive representation of US Gold featuring five $3 princess pieces along with six double eagles. The early copper section contains an 1810 over 9 Large Cent (Sheldon-281) in PCGS AU50. Prospective bidders will also find an expansive offering of Bust Halves as well as many other attractive type coins and sets. The token and medal section is loaded with interesting selections, and there are ample ancient, middle ages, and other worldwide to choose from including a Prussian 1907 5R Proof. The auction also has the largest run of foreign gold coins we have ever offered in a single auction.

Our January 2024 Sale #350 is again full of exciting and interesting lots.

One of the strongest areas in the philatelic market is covers. From postal history to postal stationery there has been a solid interest.  We have a strong showing in almost every area.

Again, we are fortunate to have a very attractive selection of U.S. singles from #1 to Back of the Book. There are many multiples of Officials and Revenues.  This sale contains several nice accumulations and collections.

Worldwide? China PRC seems to be the most sought after and we have many nice lots.  We are fortunate to have a large number of country collections, general accumulations and large worldwide collections or groups.  I hope you find something you like! Continue reading…….
